Having done so, he ambled back to where he'd been sitting, settled down, and took a piece of candy from Claudia's outstretched hand.
With a deft motion, he unwrapped the candy and tossed it into his mouth.
As he tasted the soft candy, a sudden tang hit his taste buds, quickly followed by an overpowering aroma of mango.
Biting into the candy, the sweetness immediately overtook the initial sour sensation.
It was delicious.
She had been right.
Still, he couldn't resist pushing his Luck.
Turning his head towards Claudia, who had been watching him intently, he remarked, “It's not sweet enough. A bit sour, actually."
“What?”
Claudia's face flushed with embarrassment. "I'm sorry. It is indeed a Little sour."
He didn't reply, only directing his gaze at the wine glass in her hand and inquiring, “Aren't you drinking?"
Claudia's eyes followed his, glancing at the half-full glass of red wine she'd barely touched.
Bennett's eyes seemed to challenge her, as if saying, “If you don't drink it, I will."
Glancing at the two empty wine bottles beside him, Claudia shook her head and confidently replied, “I'll drink."
And with that, she Lifted the glass and emptied it in one gulp, her eyes tightly shut.
A soft burp escaped her Lips, followed by the rich aroma of fine wine. What a waste on her part!
Proudly, she showed him the empty glass and declared, “I've drunk it all. Nothing's left."
Bennett, eyes closed, leaned back towards the wine cabinet without a word.
Claudia sighed. Something must have happened.
Otherwise, how could such an proud man find himself in this wine cellar, drinking his sorrow away?
Bennett had always held sway in the world of business. Few things had the power to wound him in such a manner
So was it girl problem?
It seemed unlikely. She had heard no recent rumors in this regard. Betrayal by a friend?
That didn't seem plausible either. Bennett's friends all seemed like decent people.
