Chapter: 547
As she gathered her things, readying to leave, Aurora hesitated and suggested, "Why don't you stay over tonight?"
Claudia had cooled off from her earlier frustration, having vented for most of the day.
Truth be told, Bennett wasn't in the wrong. Her emotions had gotten the best of her, Claudia mused.
They simply shared a partnership. He was concerned that this collaboration might evolve into something more, so it was only natural tor him to be cautious about their closeness.
While she felt saddened by this, he was correct.
“Forget it. If I don't return tonight, there might be fresh gossip tomorrow about my marriage falling apart."
She was tired of being the talk of the town. Repeated instances Like these could create misunderstandings that weren't easy to brush off.
Aurora, looking concerned, remarked, "At least let me walk you out then."
"Sure," Claudia agreed.
Having spent the entire day outside, Claudia was actually quite worn out, feeling a Little drained at the moment.
Misreading her fatigue as sadness, Aurora tried to Lighten the mood in the elevator with a joke. "Once, a heartbroken wolf was on the hunt. He wandered past a cabin and overheard a man threatening his mischievous child, "If you cry again, I'll feed you to the wolves!" So, the wolf waited outside all night, expecting a meal. Come sunrise, the famished wolf mumbled, ‘Men can't be trusted! '"
Claudia shot a tired look at Aurora, commenting, “That was a terrible joke."
Flustered, Aurora defended, “Whether it's funny or not isn't the issue. The takeaway is, even wolves have figured out men can be deceptive."
Claudia was at a Loss for words. Well, her friend was just beating around the bush to say that she was stupid!
Claudia let out a scoff. As she looked up, she spotted Bennett making his way toward her.
Why was he here?
How did he know where she was?
Instinctively, Claudia turned to Aurora and asked, “Did you tell him?" Aurora, looking genuinely surprised, replied, "We've been together all day. You've seen every move I've made."
Claudia mulled it over and admitted to herself that Aurora's claim made sense.
Recalling the events of the day, Claudia remembered not only cutting off Bennett's call but also ignoring his message inquiring about her evening plans.
The more she pondered, the stronger her sense of guilt grew. Turning to Aurora, Claudia said, "Actually, I've changed my mind. Would it be okay if I crash at your place tonight? Just for one night!"
Aurora was left speechless.
As Claudia was formulating her thoughts, Bennett had already approached her.
The sticky heat of August permeated the night, but Bennett defied the weather in his black shirt and loose dark pants.
