Chapter: 678
Bennett set the glass down and glanced at the parcel's discarded packaging. "She sent you clothes. Isn't that a subtle way of telling me that I'm failing as your husband?"
“It is?"
What in the world Led him to that conclusion?
When Bennett moved to approach her, Claudia hurriedly sat down, hoping she would not accidentally crush the box.
As she did so, however, the box slid off her back, and it fell before she could catch it.
A second later, she heard a thud.
Claudia turned her head and looked wide-eyed at the box that had fallen to the floor.
A piece of black lace fabric slid out of the box and onto the floor. In her panic, Claudia flung herself at the man and wrapped her arms around his waist. She looked up at him, blinked her eyes, and asked, “What should we have for dinner tonight?"
Bennett hooked one arm around her waist and leaned down, staring into her bright eyes as he replied, "We can have whatever you want.
Anyway, Miss Haywood's gift for you fell. Aren't you going to pick it up?"
Claudia froze. Willing herself to calm down, she stammered, bit thirsty. Can you get me a glass of water?”
“Sure.” Bennett then bent down to whisper in her ear, “Mrs. Dreskin, can you try on the clothes Miss Haywood bought for you? I want to see then."
Claudia's voice shook as she replied, "Get me some water first!"
"Alright."
He released her and walked to the kitchen island to get her some water. Claudia did not take her eyes off him as she crouched down and shoved the lingerie back into the box.
Why did Aurora have to send such a sexually suggestive present? She complained inwardly.
Bennett returned with a water glass and gave her a playful Look. Claudia accepted the glass and drank from it, her gaze never leaving him. She was worried he would reach for the box and open it.
She then returned the glass to him and quickly picked up the box from behind her. As she stood up, she said, “I'll just go and change my clothes.”
When she took a step forward, though, her right foot caught the ribbon that was previously wrapped around the box before she removed it, causing her to stagger forward.
Bennett quickly caught her before she could face-plant on the floor. However, due to its weight and slippery surface, the box slipped out of her grasp.
When Bennett pulled her closer to him, he used too much force and stumbled backward. He landed on the sofa while Claudia plopped down on his Lap. The box she had been holding dropped at his feet.
It landed on its side and then toppled to the floor. The box was uncovered, revealing two pieces of black fishnet lace fabric.
For a moment, Claudia could not even utter a sound.
She wondered if Bennett would not look at the box if she pretended to faint.
