Chapter: 1800
"No, it's just the way my life is meant to be. It's not your fault. It's all on me. I was too content before, and maybe that's why life's thrown so many challenges my way."
Annis, though an orphan, had been taken in by kind people. She had a worry-free upbringing, basking in the love of her adoptive parents.
She had been fortunate.
But it seemed her Luck had run dry.
Overwhelmed, she broke into tears and said in a raspy voice, "I need to ask you for something!"
Camila, feeling her trembling body, had tears in her own eyes. She replied with a heavy heart, "Go ahead."
“I need to get away.”
“Where are you going?"
Camila became anxious. "You shouldn't be alone now. It's too easy to get lost in your thoughts."
She placed her hand on Annis' shoulder, insisting, "I'll be by your side, always."
As soon as she finished speaking, her phone started to ring.
It was not the right time to answer the call.
She frowned and pulled out her phone quickly.
Hyman was on the line, asking, “You're needed at work, and why aren't you here?"
"You go on without me. I'm not coming in today. The team can proceed with the experiment on what we discussed yesterday," Camila explained.
Hyman asked with concern, “Are you doing okay?"
“I'm alright. I'm going to hang up now," Camila responded.
She ended the call and slipped her phone into her pocket.
“Did I interrupt your work?" Annis inquired.
Camila shook her head, reassuringly replying, "No, it's nothing serious."
