Chapter: 1895
Isaac asked as they walked out of the airport, "Have you completed your task?"
Alick's gaze briefly flickered towards Camila; his response was measured and subdued.
Sensing the vagueness of Alick's answer, Camila looped her arm through Isaac's, understanding that Alick was hesitant to divulge sensitive information in her presence.
She knew she was directly involved in the matter at hand and needed to be informed of any developments regarding the search for the criminals.
"Alick, if there's something to be said, don't hold back," Camila urged.
Alick's gaze shifted downward slightly as he explained, “I didn't intend to keep it from you. I just didn't want to upset you."
Unfazed, Camila insisted, “It's alright. Please, tell me."
After a brief pause, Alick explained, “These individuals have a history of criminal activity in Mailvas. They fled to evade police investigation and continued their unlawful actions in several other cities before fleeing again."
Isaac's eyebrows shot up as he sought clarification, "So, these individuals are habitual offenders, and they've committed crimes in multiple cities. This time, they may have acted independently, without orders from anyone, correct?"
Camila interjected, her tone tinged with excitement, “Absolutely not! When they tried to kidnap me, they specifically inquired if I was Camila. It was evident they didn't recognize me, implying they were acting on someone else's instructions. That's why they initially sought confirmation of my identity."
Isaac gently squeezed Camila's hand, offering reassurance, “Take it easy. I'm just trying to understand the situation."
Camila took a deep breath, acknowledging her heightened emotions and trying to settle them.
Alick admitted candidly, "I haven't found any evidence that they were bribed. But that doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen. They're skilled at evading capture, leaving no significant traces behind in any of the cities. It's unclear whether they're still around or have already fled."
Camila's spirits sank upon hearing this news.
The culprits remained at large, their extensive criminal record and vigilance making apprehension challenging.
Sensing her despair, Isaac patted her back reassuringly. "We'll catch them sooner or later," he said confidently.
Camila nodded solemnly.
As they arrived at their destination, Camila's phone abruptly rang.
She answered it, her brow furrowing with increasing concern.
"I understand," she muttered before ending the call.
