Chapter: 2048
Camila observed, reaching out to touch Laura's belly. “How long?"

“Eight months," Laura replied with a smile.

Laura spoke highly of Morrison. He was a good man, nice and very tolerant. He was the responsible type, providing her with a sense of security and taking good care of her. Laura had fully accepted him into her life. The two hadn't been intimate yet because Laura was far along in her pregnancy. After the baby was born, she and Morrison planned to solidify their relationship.

Camila sensed a profound peace in Laura. It was evident she was leading a good life, and Camila felt genuinely happy for her.

"If I had known you were pregnant, I wouldn't have asked you to come," she admitted. At that moment, Camila no longer felt right asking Laura for help. Laura was pregnant. How could she possibly perform an autopsy?

It seemed detrimental to her well-being. Camila was surprised by the timing of Laura's pregnancy. Doing the math, it appeared Laura had been pregnant before marrying Morrison. Was the marriage prompted by the pregnancy?

She leaned in and whispered to Laura, "You must really like him, or you wouldn't have gotten pregnant so quickly."

Laura offered a hesitant smile and a subtle nod in response.

But Camila quickly noted the subtle shift in her expression.

There was a flicker of uncertainty in her gaze, her eyelashes fluttering slightly, but she chose not to pry further.

Though Laura didn't offer any explanation, her silence spoke volumes.

It proved that it was something she didn't want to say.

Camila maintained a facade of nonchalance, putting on an easy smile.

"You'll stay at my house..."

But before Camila could finish her offer, Laura interrupted her, “We'll book a hotel. With so many family members in your home, it might be inconvenient for us. I will go home soon after I help you."

At the outset, Camila indeed did not anticipate that Laura's arrival would include her husband.

Now she realized that inviting them to stay at her place might not be appropriate after all.

"I'll book a hotel for you," Camila declared, reaching for her phone without hesitation.

Laura accepted the offer gracefully. "I'll gladly accept. After all, you're not short on funds," she remarked with a wry smile.

Camila playfully poked her. “Don't tease me."
