Chapter: 2197
Morrison turned to the officer operating the recorder and said, “You can take a break now."
Acknowledging Laura's presence, the recorder replied with a smile, “Hello, Laura. I'll take a break since you're here."
"Help yourself to some food outside," Laura offered.
As the recorder started to gather his things, the man in the black hoodie attempted to speak. "Laura..." he began.
Morrison quickly moved to silence him, covering his mouth. He waited until the recorder had exited the room before whispering sternly, “Stay quiet if you want a chance to talk to Laura."
With the door now closed, Morrison turned off the camera. He had arranged for Laura to visit under the guise of delivering food because she had resigned from her position.
Current rules forbade suspects from seeing outsiders until they had confessed their crimes, and since Laura knew the man, Morrison preferred to keep their prior acquaintance concealed.
“Just talk. Ignore my presence," he instructed, settling down at the table to eat a hamburger.
"Aldrin?" Laura gasped, hardly recognizing the man before her. He was noticeably thinner, his skin darker, and a scar was visible on his face. He sat restrained in the interrogation chair, his wrists locked in handcuffs.
Aldrin looked equally stunned, his eyes fixating on Laura's pregnant belly with a mix of surprise and disbelief.
Aldrin trembled all over and asked in a hoarse voice, “Who's the father?"
Laura walked up to him. Instead of answering his question, she asked, “Have you broken the law?"
Aldrin stared at her with red eyes. “Are you back with Forrest?"
Morrison paused from eating his hamburger.
Then, he quickly continued to eat.
He chewed on his food like he hadn't heard anything.
Laura looked at Aldrin, her gaze patient. "We're not talking about me right now. You need to tell me everything so I'll know how to save."
"Hah!" Aldrin scoffed. "Save me? And just how do you plan on doing that? You think you can bend the law for your personal interests?"
Laura grabbed his shoulder. "Aldrin..."
"Don't call me that!" Aldrin roared furiously.
