He wasn't feeling shy.
But right now, he couldn't find the words. The sense of helplessness was overwhelming.
"I think we should go to the hospital," Camila suggested gently. "I know a really good eye doctor."
"I've arranged for a doctor to see Mr. Johnston," Willie added.
"What did the doctor say?" Camila's voice was laced with worry.
“The doctor thinks it might be related to his retina injury, but we need more tests to be sure and start treatment." Willie glanced at Isaac before replying.
Camila didn't respond immediately.
Instead, she turned her attention to a pot of soup on the stove.
With care, she scooped out a spoonful, blew on it to cool, and brought it to Isaac. "I know you're concerned about Alick, but with your vision impaired, it's tough for you to do many things," she explained gently.
Before Isaac could reply, she interjected, “Forrest and Willie can do these things for us, right? I heard you've got someone looking for Alick."
Isaac's face tensed. “If they've got Alick, it's a big problem. That group must be pretty powerful."
Camila's heart squeezed.
"But don't worry," Isaac said to her. "I have connections. They'll find Alick soon."
"Okay," Camila responded.
She couldn't just brush it off, not this time.
The danger felt real, too real.
Those people, they were something else — so intense, so fierce.
If Alick had really been caught by them, the outcome would be... It would be bad, really bad.
The thought of facing Annis with this news was daunting.
If Annis knew what had happened to Alick, Camila was worried that Annis might lose control and go to confront those guys.
