Chapter: 2351
Annis eagerly intertwined her arm with Camila's.
But unluckily, it happened to be that arm which was injured.
As they strolled through the street, Camila's arm grew heavy, a subtle ache coursing through her wounded shoulder.
Suppressing a grimace of pain, she maintained her composure.
“Alick has gone abroad to assist Isaac," Camila began slowly. “His return, however, is delayed by unexpected circumstances..."
Before she could elaborate further, Annis interjected with a furrowed brow, her gaze fixed upon Camila. "Forrest informed me about that," she acknowledged. "I understand that much. But why does he remain beyond reach? Why does it feel like he's cut himself off."
Camila didn't know how to answer. "Um, he went to a place with poor signal," she said, coming up with an excuse.
"He wouldn't stop trying to contact me just because he's in a remote place. Please tell me the truth, Camila," Annis said, staring intently at Camila.
Camila, on the other hand, couldn't hold Annis’ gaze.
Her gaze was soul-searching.
Camila couldn't look her in the eyes and lie.
"How can I lie to you?" Camila said.
“Did you bring me here to try to persuade me to go back?" Annis asked.
"I would never do that. Of course, you can stay here for as long as you want, although your job does not allow you to stay here for long," Camila said.
“I was given a lengthy leave, Annis stated, still staring at her intently."
Camila didn't know what to say.
It seemed Annis wasn't easy to deceive. What should she do now?
Camila thought to herself.
Annis changed the topic when she saw Camila had nothing else to say.
“Let's go shopping, after which we'll go home."
