Eagle, still playful, turned to Joe. "Let's go have some fun," he said, reaching out to him.
Joe refused and dashed away.
"No," he said simply.
Eagle pursued him, calling out, "Slow down. I won't restrict you this time. We'll just play..."
"Really?" Joe paused and turned to face him.
“I won't lie to you," Eagle reassured.
Joe pointed to a large tree nearby. “Can you make a swing there? I want to play on a swing."
“Okay!" Eagle agreed instantly.
Joe's eyes widened. “Isn't that dangerous?"
“I'll keep you safe," Eagle promised.
Joe fell silent, pondering.
Wouldn't this diminish the pleasure of swinging?
"You're ruining my childhood," he accused.
"You can play something else that's safe. I promised your mother I'd protect you so you wouldn't get hurt. Understand?" Eagle tried to explain.
"I don't understand," Joe replied bluntly.
Eagle chose not to elaborate further.
"What do you consider safe?" Joe inquired after a pause.
As Eagle pondered, Joe found a harmless amusement.
He began braiding Forrest's hair.
