Chapter: 2393
"Promise you won't go to see Laura, and I'll let you go," Camila proposed.
"I promise."
She began loosening the knots in his hair as she awaited his formal vow. However, after saying those two words, he offered no further assurance, rendering Camila speechless.
“Where is your promise?" she inquired.
Forrest responded while looking at her, “Didn't I just promise?"
Camila stayed silent before standing up. "Then remain bound!"
Forrest exhaled heavily. “You women are quite the challenge."
"Why do you care for Laura then? She's a woman too," Camila shot back.
He knitted his brows together. "I surrender. I can't win this argument with you. I swear, if I seek out Laura, then I will..."
Camila waited for him to continue. “Then you will do what?"
Forrest grimaced. “End up burning my mouth while eating, or choking while drinking..."
“Is that the kind of promise you think is appropriate? Could you be more straightforward?" Camila pressed.
“Is a promise valid only if I vow to die should I go?" Forrest queried.
Camila found herself without words. She squatted down to face him.
"I'm not heartless. You're aware of Laura's difficult family circumstances. She's yearning for tranquility after her mother's death and with her father in his current state. If her life is disrupted because of you, how could I possibly face her?"
Forrest listened to Camila's words, his expression turning serious.
"I want to see her, no, to be precise, I want to see the child. I didn't want to disturb her peaceful life and just really want to see with my eyes how they're doing, that's all."
Camila untied him. "There will be opportunities in the future."
Forrest knew that such an opportunity might not come for a long time.
"Mila, you're a mother. You should understand a parent's love for their children..."
