Chapter: 2422
The journey was silent.

However, the silence wasn't awkward.

It was unusual for them to coexist peacefully given their complex relationship.

Upon their arrival at Starhaven, Morrison escorted Forrest to the building of his residence and subsequently ascended alone to fetch the baby.

Laura had confidence in Morrison, yet she was acutely aware of Forrest's impetuous nature.

Her concern about potential friction between the two men gnawed at her.

Anxiously, she perched on the sofa.

The sound of the door opening prompted her to swivel around instantly.

As Morrison re-entered, she rose and approached him, exclaiming, "You're back!"

Morrison acknowledged with a nod.

"He is downstairs. Would you like to see him?" Morrison inquired.

Laura looked at him, perplexed. "What are you implying? Are you testing me?"

Morrison gently touched her forehead and responded, "Why such strange thoughts? Just because you two aren't lovers anymore doesn't mean you can't be friends. There's no need to act like sworn enemies who can't bear to see each other. I trust you."

Laura frowned and confessed, "You trust me, but I don't trust myself. If he were to sweet-talk me, I might just follow him..."

In an instant, Morrison embraced her firmly.

He pressed his lips to hers, sensing her playful challenge, yet beneath his calm, he harbored a fear. A deep fear that she might leave him.

He held her so close, as if trying to fuse her into his very being.

"You can bring Honey down," Laura said softly.

Could friendships truly survive the end of love?

She doubted it.
