There were no words. Nothing she could explain.
It all happened before their marriage. Besides, Morrison always knew.
Now, it mattered to him. He had to take care of it himself. Whatever his decision, she would accept it.
Pulling the quilt up, she muttered, "Go to sleep." Her eyes fluttered shut.
Strangely, a calmness washed over her, so profound that it surprised even Laura.
“Are you angry?" Morrison asked tentatively.
"No," she replied honestly. There was no anger.
She had no right to be angry.
There was something about her that bothered him. It was her fault.
What could she say? Sorry?
It seemed unnecessary.
She'd known all along, and now, it didn't seem to matter anymore.
Morrison knew too.
So he blamed himself.
“Laura, give me another chance," he pleaded, moving closer to her.
She didn't push him away.
She couldn't divorce him for this. But it couldn't happen again.
“Go to sleep," she repeated, her voice devoid of emotion.
Morrison understood. This wouldn't be easily forgotten.
“Laura, do you think everyone makes mistakes?"
