Chapter: 2448
Alick scowled, a dark cloud settling over his features.
"Take care," Forrest said finally, his voice devoid of its earlier joking attitude.
He turned to Annis, a mischievous grin back in place. “Actually, I'll just grab some soup myself."
Annis stared after him, bewildered.
As the door shut behind Forrest, she finally moved, draping Alick's loose shirt over his back. "What's gotten into him?" she whispered, her voice laced with confusion.
"He's just kidding, and he's not really a bad person. Just ignore him," Alick advised.
Annis responded, "I know he's not malicious. If he were, you two wouldn't get along so well."
As she spoke, Annis buttoned up Alick's shirt.
Alick gazed down at her.
With a smile, Annis teased, "You're not a bad catch."
Alick caressed her hair gently, asking, “Do you want to return home?"
"The vacation isn't over yet," Annis replied, as she served him some soup.
Alick truly appreciated Annis’ care. He cherished whatever she cooked, regardless of its taste, and always finished his meal.
He then complimented her after finishing the soup. "Your cooking skills have improved. I prefer your dishes to anyone else's."
Looking at him earnestly, Annis said, “You're injured and need proper care. I'm considering resigning-"
Alick set the bowl aside and met her gaze.
He wanted her company, uncertain if she desired to care for him or had come to terms with the situation.
Reading his expression, Annis declared, “If it doesn't bother you, my feelings remain unchanged."
“You silly girl, of course, I don't mind it," Alick responded, embracing her warmly.
The problematic individuals from their past were no Longer a concern.
