Chapter: 2534
And it was the truth.
He used to be Laura's boyfriend. Even though she was no longer with him now, they had been deep in love once, which was real and undeniable.
But Annis wasn't convinced.
She suspected Forrest of being less than faithful.
"Annis, where should we stay?" Camila shifted the conversation intentionally.
With a smile, Annis responded, "We've got everything arranged for you."
“Thanks, and please thank Alick too," Camila replied, smiling.
Annis leaned in close, her voice a soft whisper.
"Alick's been struggling here, always itching to get back to his work. He can't shake off the worries from back home. Dad's been pushing us, you know? He says we aren't getting any younger and wants us to marry soon, so I'll move back with him to his hometown and settle in. That's why the wedding's rushed."
“That's great though, a wedding is a joyous occasion, even if it's a bit rushed. I'm really happy for you both. And about the work, tell Alick to ease up. His health comes first. Isaac's got Willie to help him now."
Annis exhaled deeply, a hint of frustration in her tone. "You know, he's a total workaholic. He'd lose his mind if he stopped working."
“He's always thrived on staying busy. I get it," Camila responded with a knowing smile.
They had organized several cars for their transportation.
Everyone climbed into the vehicles, ready for the journey.
They ended up at Nelson's house instead of a hotel.
With the hotels overcrowded, Nelson's place offered a more convenient and equipped alternative.
Once settled, Annis suggested, "Take some time to relax. Dad's put together a welcome party for tonight. Rest up, and join us for dinner later."
"Sounds perfect," Camila agreed.
“Aunt Annis, aren't you staying here too?" Joe inquired, leaning casually against the door frame.
His fondness for Annis was evident.
