Chapter: 636
Robin would have wanted Travis to lead the company, since the latter was young and had his own network of powerful connections. But the casino incident brought Travis under investigation, and he couldn't even come to the company today. More importantly, the old man was unable to convince the directors to support Travis.
It was perfectly reasonable, of course, considering that his errant grandson had committed several crimes.
And so, Robin had no other pawn besides Gunter.
“I believe Gunter is more suitable as CEO. He is older and more experienced. He should be more capable than Isaac. Besides, he is Isaac's uncle. It is only right that he gave up the position to his elder, rather than take it for himself!"
“Are you even listening to yourself?" one of the shareholders burst out.
“Are you saying that age is the basis of one's skill? Skills are acquired and developed through hard work. I'm afraid that Gunter doesn't even know the current state of the market, given how idle he has been all these years.”
The man who had just spoken on behalf of Gunter was effectively rendered speechless.
Although the Johnston family came from old money and had a long-established business, it was Isaac who had brought them to the pinnacle of success. He might be young, but there was no denying his achievements.
A tense silence fell over the conference room.
“I still think it depends on the qualifications—"
“What qualifications, exactly? Aside from Gunter's age, what else does he hold over Isaac that makes him worthy of becoming the CEO?"
One of Robin's men had tried to speak up again, but the other side was quick with their rebuttal.
Unlike his grandfather, Isaac had made no contact with these people prior to the meeting, even though he was already aware of Robin's scheme.
He had a contingency plan of his own, and he didn't really care about keeping his position in the company at all.
He was only disappointed at his grandfather. Who knew that the old man would resort to such vile tricks? No, the truth was that the entire Johnston family was made up of ruthless animals who knew no mercy, Isaac himself included.
"I'LL be taking my Leave now. Do inform me when the board has reached a decision." Isaac stood up and buttoned his suit jacket. He didn't want to hear any more of this pretentious drivel.
"We are in the middle of a meeting," Robin snapped. "How dare you Leave as you like?"
He had a nagging suspicion that Isaac had also bribed his own group of shareholders to go against him.
And if his grandson left now, it would only serve as a blatant show of disrespect toward him.
Isaac shot his grandfather a bland look and spoke in a cold voice. "I don't care whether you remove me as the CEO or you dismiss me altogether."
He didn't care about Paramount Corporation at all. The truth was that, in the last three years, he had been gradually moving the company's business transactions abroad.
Isaac knew more than anyone that Paramount Corporation had only grown to be the behemoth it now was because he was at the helm. Once he was gone, the company would dissolve into nothing.
“If you want the position so much, I'll just hand it back to you."
Isaac's expression was blank, and his tone was neither curt nor resentful. His indifference took Robin aback.
But the old man recovered shortly after, and the cogs in his brain began to turn.
