Chapter: 766
“Something happened." After a slight pause, Alick began to explain, "I was scammed! I bought a chip from someone using the money you've given me last time. But now, that person has disappeared!"
As Travis Listened, he felt his blood boil. He was so consumed by rage that he bit his bottom lip hard and tasted metal. He badly wanted to shout and curse at Alick.
Everything was going wrong. He kicked the seat in front of him so hard that the entire car shook.
Worried about her son, Audrey asked, “What's wrong? What happened?" What made Travis so angry?
Travis blew through his mouth before turning to Audrey. He wanted to explain everything to her but decided to hold his tongue instead. His mother had already undergone untold mental suffering because of what Gunter had done. If he told her that something had gone wrong with his investment, she would be pushed to the brink of insanity!
“It's nothing, Mom,“ he said with a forced smile.
“You can go ahead by yourself. There's something I have to deal with. Don't worry Everything's fine." Travis made sure that his voice was as relaxed and steady as possible.
When Audrey saw the look on her son's face, she trusted him and didn't think too much about the matter.
As soon as Travis got off the car, he called Alick as he walked by the roadside. "Let's meet right now," he said straightforwardly.
“Okay," Alick agreed.
“Where are you? I'm heading to you." As Travis spoke, he hailed a taxi "I'm in the company now," Alick answered.
After hearing that, Travis told the driver the address and quickly hung up the phone.
Meanwhile, Alick glanced at the phone mere seconds after the call was dropped. He could sense Travis' seething anger just from the tone of his voice. It made Alick's lips curl into a faint smile.
The more furious Travis became, the more successful their plan would be!
Alick sat on the boss' chair and leisurely swiveled it from side to side.
The expression on his face Looked totally calm and relaxed.
He didn't Look Like one who had been cheated.
As soon as Travis arrived, he kicked open the door of Alick's office. With a murderous look in his eyes, he stomped his way towards Alick and asked, "Tell me. What exactly happened?"
In an instant, the expression on Alick's face turned melancholic.
“I've already reached the last stage of the research," he began to explain. "There's still one chip left. If we make this chip ourselves, not only will it take a lot of time and effort on our part, we also wouldn't be able to finish it on time. Thus, I decided to buy one from a foreign company instead. Of course, I made sure to sign a contract and everything. But today, I just learned that the foreign company I dealt with was in fact just a shell company. The chip sample they had given me was actually from another company! I've already called the police. I think there's still a chance we can get it back—"
“When can we get it back?" Travis interrupted quickly. His voice was starting to shake as his face darkened even more.
“Also, a foreign company?" he added through gritted teeth. "You don't know what kind of company the other party is, and yet, you willingly paid them more than one billion dollars?
Alick denied profusely.
“I investigated them carefully! But they must've been very well-prepared, and, as a result, they successfully deceived me."
"Is there any way we can get the money back?" Travis asked. The anxiety in his voice was palpable.
