Chapter: 3965
Her words stung, leaving her distressed.
Jessie didn't linger. She turned down Albert's offer to drive her home. Outside the room, she spoke earnestly. “Albert, let's call it quits on seeing each other."
With his hands tucked in his pockets, Albert remained silent, just watching her depart.
A lively voice broke the silence. "Mr. Waston, I finally found you! I've been hunting you high and low."
Albert turned to face the voice.
There stood Joshua Barnes, the hospital director, accompanied by Jessie's beau, Axell, and Debra, Joshua's daughter.
Joshua was all smiles and eager to introduce Axell and Debra to Albert.
“This is my daughter, Debra. She's in pediatric surgery.
And meet Dr. Calderon. He's a talented surgeon."
Albert's gaze lingered on the couple. Eventually, he grinned and quipped, "Seems like you've got high hopes for Dr. Calderon. Looks like he's your top pick for a son-in-law."
Joshua was slightly taken aback.
Debra glanced at Axell, curious for his reaction. Axell's lips moved, but eventually he just stayed mum, flashing a small smile.
Joshua was eager for Albert's investment.
He brought Axell and Debra along to impress Albert. With their shared history, it'd be easier to discuss business. Plus, with Albert's late partner gone, if Debra could bond with his child, it'd create a close connection.
The mere thought had Joshua beaming from ear to ear.
Axell was feeling uneasy.
Just an hour back, Jessie had misread Axell. He had planned to clear things up post-surgery, but Joshua had pulled him in unexpectedly.
Axell hadn't anticipated it was about Albert.
Leaving now seemed even trickier for Axell.
Albert ushered those three into the room. Debra, eager to display her nurturing side, bent down beside the bed, gently advising Jeslyn, “Drink up, it'll help with your fever."
