Chapter: 4285
Leonel understood the implication behind Alexis' question immediately.
Despite having lived under the same roof for the past month and caring for Alexis diligently, he couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment that it meant nothing to her. Throughout this time, he helped Alexis with bathing, washing her hair, and even providing massages during breastfeeding difficulties. They had engaged in all the intimate activities typical of a husband and wife, yet Alexis had remained steadfast in her resolve.
In other words, Alexis had made up her mind from the very beginning to cut ties with him.
For Leonel, these two months represented his final opportunity to win Alexis back.
However, Alexis viewed their interactions as mere gestures of gratitude or repaying a debt to Leonel for saving Waylen's life.
In her determination to repay him, Alexis was willing to do anything.
Despite his strength, Leonel felt deeply disappointed. In a hoarse voice, he expressed, “In this past month, haven't you felt anything, Alexis? We have had a long history together. Are you saying you've never missed our old days?"
Alexis, however, didn't want to dwell on the past.
But she couldn't help but retort, "And what about you and Anika? You were together for months. You even lived with her. Did you feel nothing for that woman?"
“No, of course not! Besides, she's dead. She means nothing to me."
Leonel stated it indifferently, as if discussing someone inconsequential.
Witnessing his indifferent reaction, Alexis felt a wave of sadness wash over her.
She realized that Leonel would never comprehend the pain of betrayal by someone she had trusted so deeply.
However, it seemed that Leonel had managed to calm down. After all, he desired reconciliation with Alexis rather than conflict. Speaking in a gentle tone, he suggested, "I just spoke to Dad on the phone. He has been discharged from the hospital, and you've been better. How about we visit him tomorrow?"
Alexis was taken aback by the sudden news.
Overjoyed, her face lit up with excitement as she exclaimed, “Really?”
The anger in Leonel's heart also dissipated. He took a step closer, pressing Alexis gently against the chair as he whispered in her ear, "You're quite hard to please, Mrs. Douglas."
