Chapter: 4300
Alexis rose softly.

She didn't probe. Clearly, she was already in the know. Leonel stayed silent for a spell.

They reached the parking lot.

Slipping into the car, Alexis glanced at Leonel, murmuring softly, "I'm okay."

Red-eyed, Leonel gazed back. Eventually, he croaked, "You said you're okay. Is it because you're planning to bail? Will you be better off without me?"

Alexis' lips twitched.

With one hand on the wheel, the other on her shoulder, Leonel's voice grew even rougher. He murmured, “You've been pitying me lately, haven't you? You never changed your mind, did you? But Alexis, can't you spare me a bit more pity?"

He slackened his grip on the wheel, pulling her close.

He held Alexis so tight that it almost caused her pain.

Leonel's voice dripped with anguish. Nuzzling her neck, he pleaded, “Just pity me this once."

Though he begged, Alexis felt sorrow.

They'd grown together, yet here they were, losing each other now.

Her hand caressed his handsome face and her fingertips traced his nose.

She offered no affirmation.

But in her opinion, their fate was sealed.

In their time apart that followed, Leonel had often wondered if Alexis had merely pitied him or if she still harbored some love.

He could never be sure.

Leonel clasped Alexis’ delicate fingers, his voice hushed now.

“Let the baby have formula, and you take your medication, alright?"

It wasn't for him but for her.
