Chapter: 4458
She could be in shock.

In the darkness, Leonel struggled to see but managed to retrieve the hemostatic from his pocket. With great effort, he inserted two into Alexis' mouth, though she couldn't swallow them. He then tried shoving the pills down her throat.

With that, Alexis coughed violently, roused from her stupor. "Leonel," she called out, almost instinctively.

"It's me, Alexis. I'm here."

Leonel reassured her, his voice trembling. "I'm here. Don't talk. I'll get you out," Leonel whispered, his touch gentle.

Her voice was feeble. "We can't escape," she murmured.

Leonel reached for her slightly chilled lips. "We'll find a way out. Trust me," he assured her.

Wrapped in darkness, they were unable to see each other.

But as she slowly opened her eyes, she swore she sensed a glimmer of brightness in his gaze. With effort, Alexis lifted her head, feeling a searing sensation in her throat and her strength waning. She began to speak, with her voice barely audible. “Leonel, I need to tell you something."

Yet, before she could utter another word, he interjected, unwilling to let her continue.

He kissed her softly, knowing that if she wanted to confess her love, he'd hear it later.

He didn't want to hear it now, fearing she'd drift off afterward.

“Shush, Alexis; let me handle this. Stay with me, okay?" he urged her gently.

He slowly moved beside Alexis and gently wrapped his arm around her, supporting her as they moved forward. Despite her minor injuries, he helped her steadily. It was difficult for him to move on his own, let alone with an extra person. Without his sheer willpower, he might have fainted right then and there.

Debris continued to rain down from above, hitting their faces.

The structure was unstable. Any delay risked entombing them both.

Without hesitation, he swiftly guided her out, refusing to stop. Once outside, they encountered a landscape littered with debris and shattered stones.

Alexis sensed the danger too. She wanted to speak up.

Remembering Leonel's words to leave things to him, she realized the gravity of their situation. The thought occurred to her that if they were to die, it would likely be together. Despite this realization, she refrained from asking him to leave without her. She knew he wouldn't.

Her tears were running dry, but then she felt herself starting to tear up again.
