Chapter: 4693
She had spent the entire morning contemplating the matter, even considering abortion.
In the end, she couldn't bring herself to give up on her baby.
After all, it was a life, and the child hadn't done anything wrong.
Three days later, as evening fell, Gina's mother wheeled her out for a walk in the garden of the well-known hospital where they were.
Inside the ward, Dylan was engrossed in a medical magazine about breast cancer.
A nurse entered the room to return a medical record.
Not finding Gina, she handed it to Dylan, assuming this handsome man must be Gina's boyfriend.
Dylan accepted it with a polite nod, but as soon as she left, he became restless. Thoughts of Olivia invaded his mind, and he guessed she had already moved out of his apartment.
He took out his phone and tried calling Olivia again, but she still didn't answer.
Regret gnawed at him for the harsh words he had spoken.
Frustrated, he set the phone down and absentmindedly leafed through the medical record. Suddenly, he froze. The record indicated that Gina didn't have breast cancer at all; her surgery last time had been for appendicitis.
Thanks to Gina's father who owned this private hospital, they had successfully kept him in the dark the whole time.
Dylan had been caring for Gina for two weeks without discovering the truth.
The medical record slipped from his hands. He suddenly thought of Olivia and her baby, and the diagnosis of his own infertility. Could that report have been fabricated too?
The sun shone brightly through the window as Gina returned, cheerful and waving from her wheelchair, holding a bunch of flowers she had picked.
Dylan's somber look unsettled her, and then she saw the fallen medical record.
“Dylan, let me explain!" she pleaded.
His voice was low and controlled. "So you never had breast cancer. The suicide attempt was a lie. And my physical exam results were doctored. Am I right?"
Gina's panic was evident as her lips trembled.
"Tell me, is it true?" Dylan demanded.
Hearing the commotion, Gina's mother rushed in, trying to calm him down. But Dylan was focused on Gina. "You staged this so-called suicide because you had someone follow Olivia and found out she's pregnant, didn't you?"
Gina couldn't admit it. She trembled, unable to meet Dylan's eyes.
He felt a wave of self-loathing and pity for having been so easily deceived, realizing he had ruined his relationship with Olivia for a lie. He had trusted Gina without a doubt, but she only wanted to steal him from Olivia.
How could he have been so cruel to Olivia? He even told Olivia that Gina was innocent and simply unable to deceive anyone.
