Chapter: 4953
But Holley stubbornly rejected it.

"I don't get it, Luis," she huffed exasperatedly. "You'd already broken up with her and decided to be with me. But all of a sudden, you changed your mind and went back to her. Why?"

Luis didn't evade the question. Instead, he answered it straightforwardly, “It's simply because she's more suitable for me. It might sound a bit cruel, but that's just the truth. I was serious when I dated you. But I don't think we are meant to be together. Elva is my ideal woman. Besides, she also chose me as her man."

Holley was shocked when she heard this.

"I thought you sent me to further my studies because you still cared about me. How could you turn around and treat me like this?" she grumbled in disappointment.

Then all of a sudden, she burst into tears.

"I'm really sorry, Holley," Luis tried to console her. "It's just unfortunate that I'm not the right person for you."

Holley refused to listen and just kept crying. She was not willing to give him up.

Luis didn't want to push her too hard. So he waited for her to compose herself first. He even handed her some tissue to dry her eyes. They would discuss the next step when she was calm enough.

Holley tried to hug him, but Luis foiled her attempt.

He was quick to remind her that he and Elva were in a relationship.

But Holley didn't care.

Instead, she argued, “When you were with Elva, you used to chat with me late into the night, and you even asked your driver to pick me up after work. Luis, have you forgotten about all that?"

Luis had actually sequestered those memories into the back of his mind.

He had been in about a dozen relationships, and his relationship with Holley might have been the shortest one. Perhaps Elva was the reason why his relationship with Holley became somehow special.

“It's all my fault," he admitted in a gentle and patient tone. “I've already apologized to Elva. I think I also owe you an apology.”

Holley was surprised to hear this.

It had now dawned on her that no matter what she said, it was impossible for Luis to change his mind. So she asked him, “Have you ever loved me, Luis?"

If he told her a white lie, it would probably make Holley feel better, but Luis had his own principles. He had promised to never fail Elva again or lie to Holley.

So, after thinking for a while, he said softly, “I'm sorry, Holley. I thought it was love, but it turned out that I was wrong."
