Chapter: 1784
Holden remained silent, merely offering a half-smile that unsettled Sadie. Eventually, unable to withstand Holden's penetrating gaze any longer, Sadie averted her eyes.
Then, Holden chuckled softly and lifted Sadie's chin, studying her pale complexion. “Why so tense? I simply wanted to know if the name rings a bell; that's all."
Sadie didn't know what to say. Holden continued deliberately, "I came across this name recently while organizing some things. Considering our five-year history, you ought to be familiar with this individual."
Sadie's thoughts were chaotic, and she desperately sought to steer clear of any discussion involving that name.
After a moment of hesitation, she responded, “I'm not sure. You haven't shared many details about the Fredrick family with me."
Her voice came out hoarse, and when she locked eyes with Holden, a wave of guilt washed over her. Hastily, she added, “You never brought it up, so I assume it's someone from your past with the Fredrick family, but I can't be certain."
Holden watched Sadie struggle to articulate her thoughts before humming thoughtfully. Leaning back in his chair, he suddenly said, “Let's revisit our love story from five years ago; tell me everything."
Sadie's heart sank.
What? What on earth had Holden found out about her? He had never displayed interest in these details previously.
Feeling that Holden might be onto something but wasn't sure, Sadie was thrown into complete disarray.
Beneath Holden's intense scrutiny, Sadie had no option but to invent a narrative.
“We used to spend a lot of time together, traveling to different places..."
Sadie made an effort to craft a coherent narrative, feigning fond recollections of certain events.
Holden leaned back, observing her effort, occasionally seeking more information and highlighting discrepancies, which unsettled Sadie.
"What you're saying doesn't quite align," Holden commented, arching an eyebrow.
Overwhelmed, Sadie was engulfed by panic. Her legs gave way, causing her to collapse on the floor, where she burst into tears. "It's all true; why won't you believe me?"
Holden observed her briefly before letting out a deep sigh and assisting her to her feet. “Remember, you're pregnant. Take care of yourself. Don't sit on the floor like that."
He then inquired, "By the way, which hospital was Adele born in? I believe the baby in your belly should receive the same excellent medical care. It's remarkable that they assisted in Adele's safe delivery, particularly considering your heart condition."
Sadie was completely tense, her thoughts racing through numerous terrible scenarios.
The intensity of Holden's stare made her feel dizzy, and without warning, she collapsed in front of him.
