Chapter: 1869
Seeing the raw anger in Holden's eyes, Mitchel chose to remain silent.
Holden shut his eyes again, enduring the discomfort.
But shortly after, Mitchel called out to him once more.
Annoyed, Holden was about to snap when Mitchel tossed him a pill that resembled candy. Holden examined it, then glanced at Mitchel, who stated plainly, "It's a sedative. You need it right now."
Holden uttered through gritted teeth, "I don't need it."
"You don't want her to see you all disheveled and out of sorts when we find her," Mitchel said calmly.
Holden stopped short, the pill squeezed between his fingers. After a silent moment, he swallowed it.
Mitchel stayed silent for a long time before he finally said, “I don't think she's dead. The fact that they haven't found her body or any trace of her by the lake is promising. As a doctor, I've seen enough to understand that hope should be the last thing you lose.”
Holden listened in silence and, after a long pause, muttered, “Thanks.”
Soon, they reached Sadie's house with Devin. Holden entered without hesitation. The villa was unsettlingly silent, as though it had been empty for days.
Holden took out his phone and dialed Sadie's number. The call connected quick, but the voice that answered the call wasn't Sadie's.
Sadie's agent, Chloe, answered the call.
"Hello, is this Mr. Frederick?" Chloe asked, her voice trembling.
"It's me. Where's Sadie?" Holden cut to the chase.
"Sadie suffered a heart attack last night and is now in the hospital. I'm with her," Chloe explained hurriedly.
“Let me speak to her," Holden said.
“What? She's still unconscious and can't talk right now. What do you need? I'll make sure she gets the message when she wakes up," Chloe responded.
Holden scoffed, “Really? Which hospital is she in? I'll go visit her."
Chloe clearly hadn't expected Holden to suggest visiting. She hesitated. "Uh, she's at, um, Mercy Hospital."
She quickly added, "But the doctors have already checked her; she's fine. There is no need for you to come. I'll tell Sadie you are worried about her. I wouldn't want to waste your time."
