Chapter: 2048
“Looking for some entertainment, right?" Moss scoffed, obviously skeptical but playing along nonetheless. “Well then, let's keep playing."
Adrian, still under the influence of the drug, stood behind Holden, staring at him with admiration, mistaking Holden for his wife completely oblivious to the situation.
Bennett and Holden exchanged confused glances, trying to decipher what Moss meant.
Suddenly, the screen changed.
Moss had vanished, and Ariana's image appeared on the screen.
The moment Holden saw Ariana, he got close to the screen, wanting to see her clearly. But as Moss zoomed in slowly, Holden's face turned pale.
There lay Ariana, unconscious on a metal stretcher, connected to various machines that linked to a cryogenic chamber housing Emilia, who had been dead for more than two decades. Moss, obsessed with reviving Emilia, had no qualms about sacrificing lives for his experiment.
Seeing his beloved one treated like a lab rat was unbearable for Holden.
“Moss Valdez! You better listen up!" Holden yelled, his fists clenched and his eyes ablaze with fury. “If anything happens to Ariana, I don't care if you resurrect Emilia a thousand times. I'll kill her right in front of you, again and again!"
The change in Moss' expression was evident; Holden's threat had visibly shaken him. But he was too deeply invested to give up now Unseen by Holden, Moss gritted his teeth and defiantly muttered, "I'll see you try."
In front of Holden and the others, Moss pressed a device with a sinister smile. Within two seconds, the link between Ariana and Emilia flared brilliantly, signaling to everyone that Ariana was in danger.
Then, with a beep, Moss made screen go dark, deliberately preventing Holden and the others from seeing more.
Meanwhile, Adrian was a complete mess, far too drunk to walk straight.
He kept stumbling and falling flat on his face, worse than a toddler learning to walk. When he finally managed to get up and saw Bennett, he mistook him for Melon, reaching out to pat Bennett's head. He even knelt down before Bennett, offering to carry Bennett on his back for fun.
Bennett, growing more irritated by the second, clicked his tongue in annoyance.
His patience was wearing thin, especially when Adrian was messing with him.
Bennett struck Adrian across the face without thinking.
Adrian spun around dizzily and collapsed to the floor, rolling his eyes and foaming at the mouth.
"Seriously?" Bennett muttered, staring at his palm in disbelief.
Holden had smacked Adrian before repeatedly, and Adrian had appeared fine. But after his slap, why had Adrian become like this? This was absurd.
