Chapter: 1039
Claire had no idea what that meant, but she didn't have time to ponder it. Her heart was hammering inside her chest, and her thoughts were in a frenzy. Had they somehow run into some wicked gangster?

“What? Oh no! Is he—" The bald man stopped just a few feet away.

His eyes were fixed on Jack. He looked surprised at first, frowned, and finally narrowed his eyes.

After his brief assessment, the man realized that Jack was also an ancient martial arts practitioner.

What he did not know was that Jack had the uncanny ability to hide his strength. As such, he did not appear powerful at all.

“Humph!" The bald man scoffed and cupped his hands in front of his chest. "Friend, I am Grover Moreno, a level two warrior. I have some business to discuss with Miss Maria Jenkins over here.

Please, can you give us some privacy?"

Grover announced proudly that he was a level two ancient martial arts practitioner. This gave him a sense of superiority.

Grover had in fact been expelled from the Ancient Martial Arts Association a few years back because of his aggressiveness.

Moreover, because of his rebellious disobedience, he had never managed to land a long-term job in upper society.

He had been living the vagrant's life for a few years now. He was used to doing dirty jobs for money.

“Damn it! If I had known that she had a martial artist as her bodyguard, I would have asked for an extra million!" Grover grumbled under his breath.

He couldn't judge Jack's strength just by looking at him but he was sure he would be no match for him.

Grover investigated everything thoroughly. Maria Jenkins who was the target of this mission was an adopted daughter of the Jenkins family. She was also a new face in Sheffield's entertainment industry.

It was quite unbelievable that she had a martial artist for bodyguards, given her identity as an adoptive daughter.

But the bodyguard of a showbiz newbie like Maria surely couldn't high-leveled, could he?

“What? Can't you hear me? Back off!"

Grover burst out, when he saw Jack still frozen to the spot.

"I'm Miss Jenkins' driver. I can't leave her side unless dismissed," Jack said as he shook his head. His tone was Loyal and honest.

Jack didn't think of himself as a bodyguard for Maria.

He felt that he wasn't strong enough to protect someone as powerful as

Maria.

“Humph!" Grover snorted out of disgust and said, “Let sleeping dragons lie!" He continued to provoke, "You'll only ever be able to dream about defeating me. I've been at level two for several years now.”

Grover had intended for this to frighten Jack but unexpectedly Jack's expression was one of sympathy.
