Chapter: 1078
“Hey, come here, you lot! Help Mr. Bennett and Miss Jenkins with their stuff," he ordered his men.
The director had no desire to talk or help Maria, but right now, he had to do this for Darren's sake.
These people's work was to handle all sorts of chores which included carrying bags for the artists.
They didn't hesitate after the director's order and rushed to take the bags from Darren. However, Darren stepped back and stopped them.
“Do you want to take my job away from me?" Darren asked coldly.
The director and everyone else watching were taken aback.
“What?
Darren, you're an honored guest of the show. Your job isn't to carry bags. Please just let them take it and get ready to shoot, okay?" The director tried to talk sense into Darren.
Unfortunately, Darren wasn't having any of it. He clasped Maria's handbag to his chest as if scared that they would snatch it from him.
He was like a mama bear protecting her cub from the predators.
“This is a disaster!" the director murmured under his breath in frustration. There was no way out of this. He sighed and waved the people away.
Then he looked at Darren and said awkwardly, as if he was pleading, “Please don't go too far away. We might still need you to make a brief appearance."
He had never felt this embarrassed before.
Anyone who had experience in the showbiz knew that the director only wanted to exclude Maria from the beginning.
They could also see his embarrassing attempt to suck up to Darren.
Sadly, things didn't work out as he had planned. He instead seemed to have made a fool of himself. He still couldn't figure out why Darren respected Maria so much.
No matter how much he regretted this situation, he was too ashamed to go back on his word. The embarrassment he already felt was enough. He would just have to follow the original plan, and then find a way to bring Darren and Maria back to the show.
“So, where are we going to?" Darren asked, following Maria who was already some distance away from the filming site.
"I'd like to pay a visit to my teacher since we are here." Maria glanced back shortly at him and added, "I called ahead this morning to make sure he would be in."
The Literature School of Sheffield University was right ahead of them. Curt Willows, the president of the Sheffield Writers' Association, was also the dean of the Literature School here.
Merlin, the Secretary General of Sheffield Writers’ Association and Maria's fellow senior apprentice, was also an associate professor in the school.
It was actually quite common for members of the Writers' Association to have many other jobs.
In fact, their work at the Writers’ Association was usually a sideline for most of them. They had their main jobs elsewhere.
With Darren close behind her, Maria walked into the office building of the Literature School. Clearly, this wasn't her first time here.
