Chapter: 1211
She got up, knelt down on her knees once again, and took out a pair of warm cotton socks from inside her clothes. Then, she carefully put them on for the old Lady.

Once she was done with the socks, she put on the shoes. Seeing this, the plump woman grinned satisfactorily.

“Now get out of the way. Do you want to block the way of her Ladyship?"

The girl didn't even dare to stand up. Instead, she crawled to the side and made way for the old lady and the plump woman.

The plump woman then held the old lady's arm and slowly walked her back to her bedroom.

As for the girl, she couldn't help but retch repeatedly when the duo finally disappeared, doing it as quietly as possible.

There was a well-known but unspoken secret within the Jenkins family: the matriarch had intensely smelly feet.

The girl couldn't bear the stench coming out of her clothes, so she pinched her nose as she ran back to her room. She badly wanted to take a shower and change into a pair of clean clothes.

In the main room of the Jenkins Mansion, the old lady picked up a roster on the table and inspected it casually.

The plump woman smiled and said, "You really care about these children. You have checked the list several times."

“Well... I am getting old. I'm just trying here in case I forget some of them."

Even though the old Lady said this, she didn't turn a single page of the roster.

Her eyes Looked cloudy and empty.

“Maria?" she uttered beneath her breath as she stared at this name for a long time.

At last, the fleet of cars reached their destination-the Jenkins residence in Broome.

As the summoned Jenkins started to alight from the vehicles, however, they realized that they were not in the front drive of the property.

“What the hell? Why are we in the back gates?"

A young man eyed the dilapidated wooden door and the crumbling courtyard wall with disdain. This was unacceptable.

After all, the Jenkins family was known as one of the oldest and most influential fixtures in the country. They were well-established, both in the social and business scene, and were once looked up to by thousands of people.

Suddenly, they heard a shrill, female voice.

“Cyril! Is everyone here? No one was left behind, right?"

Everyone turned to see a plump woman waddling out of the villa's back door.

Cyril plastered a smile on his face and hurried over to her. "Doris! You didn't have to come and fetch us in person. Don't worry. Everyone who was called to come is here."

Doris was not a member of the Jenkins family at all, but a high-ranking servant who had served them for years. Somewhere along the way, she gained respect from the other servants.
