Chapter: 1667
Mrs. Jenkins was quite pleased with it. In her eyes, Maria should have died twenty years ago with that weak heart of Barbara's. Now, she finally met her fate.
For the past twenty years, Mrs. Jenkins had run the Jenkins family, doing more than changing Barbara's weak heart with Maria's healthy one. She'd slowly drained the Jenkins family's resources for her own gains.
When the Jenkins family finally saw the truth, it wouldn't matter if everyone banded together to dethrone her. The family would be just a husk. Taking it back would be pointless.
Mrs. Jenkins had her exit strategy all planned out. She'd leave with the fortune she'd stripped from the Jenkins family over the years, along with Barbara. Their scheme was almost perfect, nearly impossible to fault.
"You..." Canaan's frustration grew as Mrs. Jenkins dismissed his caution again. He knew she was domineering, never listening to others' advice. he of Maria. Maria be a better ...
Somehow, thought might choice for a discussion.
Then, Canaan quickly dismissed the idea, thinking Maria's low status in the Jenkins family made her an unlikely candidate, despite her talents.
"Damn it! Whatever. Just head to the Lemna Yard first," Canaan muttered to himself, feeling a bit lost.
He thought Maria might have some useful insights, even if they weren't guaranteed to solve anything.
As Canaan neared the Lemna Yard, he saw Grover guarding the entrance.
Canaan casually asked, "Is Maria around?"
Grover shook his head as Canaan was about to step in.
"No, she's not here. But please, come inside."
"What? She's not?" Canaan was puzzled. Without Maria there, his visit seemed pointless.
Canaan managed a forced smile and was about to turn away when he heard a voice from the courtyard, older than his own, calling out, “Canaan? Please, come in."
That voice hit Canaan like a bolt from the blue.
It had been at least twenty years since he last heard it!
At the Association of Healthcare Professionals, Kent was pacing in his office, unable to stand still.
Unlike Mrs. Jenkins, Kent had checked about those "professional technicians" Octavian had arranged to enter Highwyn for the mission of dealing with Anthony and the Wilson family. Those guys‘ smooth entry to the country required his family's involvement in vouching for them. However, the whole thing seemed odd to him.
As a seventh-grade medical expert skilled in ancient martial arts medicine, Kent sensed danger just by looking at the photographs of these so-called technicians. They seemed more like fighters, the kind that even made him feel threatened.
Kent was aware that Octavian's upcoming plans would require this group of formidable fighters. However, he questioned the necessity of employing so many powerful individuals against the Wilson family, who were not part of the world of martial arts.
As Kent pondered the request he had made to Octavian and the price it entailed, he found himself uncertain whether the deal was beneficial or detrimental. If he allowed this group to enter Highwyn, the Barnes family, who vouched for them, faced the risk of severe consequences.
Kent found himself hoping silently that these people would complete their task without causing additional problems, swiftly returning home without leaving behind any evidence that could implicate his family or himself.
His contemplation was interrupted by the buzzing of his mobile phone.
