Chapter: 2
Maria didn't want to waste her breath with the arrogant servant, so she just nodded wordlessly.
Seeing that Maria didn't say a word, Lily sneered in exasperation. "Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins live on the second floor while Miss Vivian lives on the third floor. You'll stay here on the first floor. Don't go wandering around, or else you might get Lost."
Her tone was harsh. Obviously, she was prejudiced against “country bumpkins" like Maria.
"Okay," Maria replied in her usual indifferent tone.
“Anyway, just stay in your room. I'll call you at meal times. And try not to make any noise. I live next to you and I haven't slept well recently. I'd hate to be woken up in the middle of the night!"
After saying that, Lily turned around and stormed off arrogantly.
Finally left to her own devices, Maria locked the door and proceeded to unpack her things.
She pulled out an old laptop and set it on the desk.
As soon as she turned it on, a chat box popped up.
“Master M, still open for business?"
Maria took a quick glance at the order request. It read, “The website of an international children's charity foundation was hacked. They're requesting that their website security be reinforced."
Then, she scrolled up further and saw that the offered payment for the job was only three hundred thousand dollars.
Maria's network ID in her line of work was M, but the staff addressed her as "Master M" to show their respect for her. She was a member of a well-known hacker organization called Heaven. The staff members would receive orders or jobs from various companies and groups, which they would then forward to the hackers of Heaven, hackers like Maria.
Since the offered payment for this particular job order was only three hundred thousand dollars, it was nearly impossible to convince a divine-level hacker in Heaven to take it. In fact, this amount barely met the standard fees of the lower-level hackers.
However, this charity organization was in a pickle. Their website was supposed to be secure, yet it was still infiltrated by hackers, which put their charity funds at risk. If they wanted to upgrade their system's defense, they would need a specialist-one with higher technical capabilities. Average-level hackers weren't suited for the job.
Fortunately, all staff members knew that among the few top-notch hackers, only Master M would take orders based on her mood and not the reward.
If the client was Lucky enough to catch Master M in the right mood, they could pay as low as thirty thousand for a job as tedious as this.
Bearing this in mind, the staff member decided to bite the bullet and went straight to Maria. While waiting for her reply, he couldn‘t help but hold his breath in anxious anticipation.
"Fine. Ask the client to forward their IP address and all relevant data. I'll get it done soon."
Seeing this, the staff member heaved a sigh of relief and then quickly relayed the information to the client.
Mere minutes later, Maria received everything she asked for.
She began to tap away at the keyboard, her fingers lithe and accurate.
She was like a pianist whose fingers danced across the keys harmoniously. Her clear eyes were fixed on the computer screen the whole time, as though some indescribable force drew her towards it.
Fortunately, her Laptop was equipped with a silent keyboard. That way, no matter how fast she typed, she didn't make a sound.
It only took a short while for Maria to write a complex series of codes. Even for experts in this field, her codes seemed as obscure as a mystic foreign Language.
