Chapter: 396
Boden was fully aware of his family's traditional view when it came to beliefs and moral issues. All of the generations, whether old or new, were expected to observe all kinds of courtesies.
Back then, Julie's relationship with her family was greatly damaged when she got pregnant before she was married. In the end, she broke ties with her parents, left her family, and moved to Sheffield with Bill. She wanted to be far away from Broome.
Influenced by his moral compass, Boden already had a bad impression of Maria even though he hadn*t met her yet.
In fact, he was somehow relieved that at least Vivian, his blood-related cousin, looked prim and proper.
Besides, he was aware that Vivian was a budding artist. She had starred in some web series, and now, she had a role in the popular show Legend of Anne. Furthermore, she also had great talent in music.
Compared to Maria, Vivian's status was obviously more suitable for a daughter of a distinguished family. Although being an actress would not bring glory to the Smith family, at least, it would not damage the family's reputation.
“Boden, don't take it the wrong way. Maria is already engaged. So, it's okay if she moved in with her fiance. Besides... She is not very healthy. At least, if she's with Anthony, she can be taken good care of." Julie couldn't help but suddenly explain. She just didn't want Boden to think Less of Maria.
On the other hand, Boden could just nod slowly. "I see." However, he already made a snap judgment of Maria. Even though Julie tried to explain the situation, it didn't really change his mind.
But upon hearing that her mother tried to defend Maria, Vivian was very dissatisfied.
“Again? Mom has been more and more concerned about Maria recently. Humph! Why do you even have to explain on her behalf?”
The Smith family had given Boden two specific tasks on his trip to Sheffield.
First, he would be in charge of their family's cooperation with the Hughes Group regarding the new movie project. Second, he needed to check how his aunt was doing.
The current head of the Smith family was his Grandpa, Mathias Smith, who was about to turn eighty years old. Since Mathias was also Julie's father, he still wanted to know if his daughter was doing well.
“Anyway, I have a suggestion about the movie.”
When it came to talking about business, Boden could be very serious.
“Why don't we choose Mia's Female Military Counsellor over Polly's Song of Phoenix? The former is more popular, right? As far as I know, Mia is far more influential even worldwide. What do you think?"
Boden's immediate questions didn't consider the cost of buying the copyrights of Mia's work.
To a family as wealthy and influential as the Smiths, the investment cost was the least of their worries though.
“Please understand where I was coming from. I was only asking questions from an investor’s point of view. As long as you can give me a reasonable explanation, the Smith family will gladly invest and produce Vivian's movie," Bolden answered politely. He hoped he didn't offend any of the women.
Patricia smiled in reply and said, “You're right, Mr. Smith. Mia is a legendary writer, and her work is more popular. However, our company decided to adapt Song of Phoenix to align with the company’s and the Smith family's interests."
