Chapter: 558
Vivian was satisfied with it. But then she suddenly discovered that she was not the reason for his happiness. The smile was not directed at her.
“Grandpa, I came to visit you!" She strutted over to Mathias and spoke in a voice as sweet as honey.
Before Mathias could respond, an indifferent voice came from behind Vivian.
“Grandpa, it's time for you to take your medicine. Here you go."
Vivian turned around and was upset to see Maria. Where did she suddenly come from at this early hour?
Vivian was surprised. Maria had obviously arrived earlier than her. Vivian remembered how Maria always put on airs in front of everyone but here she was, trying to flatter their grandfather.
Vivian cursed inwardly and could have pulled out a tuft of Maria's hair. She thought that Maria only pretended to be lofty and care about nobody.
Why else would she arrive early at the Smith family home to look after Mathias? What a good flatterer! What a pretender! What a terrible excuse for a human being!
Vivian then proceeded to expose Maria's true colors in front of Mathias.
“Oh? Maria, you prepared the medicine for Grandpa so perfectly. Since when did you become so considerate? You never offered to look after Mom and me when we got sick. Could you possibly have some selfish reason for behaving this way with Grandpa?"
Maria cast an icy glance at her and put the medicine on the table without dignifying her words with a comment.
“That's very kind of you, Maria. I really appreciate your kindness," Mathias said, nodding with satisfaction. It seemed as if he was deaf to whatever Vivian had said.
What the hell was wrong with him? Was this old geezer deaf?
Vivian cursed strongly in her heart, but she didn't dare to vent her anger, in fear of angering her grandfather.
Mathias continued, "It's all my fault. I had requested Boden to get Maria here early this morning. The maid fell ill suddenly and there was no one else around who knows how to decoct the herbal medicine."
Vivian thought that was probably just a Lame excuse. She felt embarrassed by Mathias's words. But she was also angered that he took Maria's side and proceeded to offer an explanation on her behalf.
All of a sudden, Mathias stunned Vivian with a question. He asked, "Vivian, don't you have maids at home? Are you on a tight budget? There's no one taking care of you when you're sick?"
“Well, actually, Grandpa, we... we do have maids." Vivian's face turned crimson with embarrassment. She had to tell the truth.
Since there was maids in their home, then it was their duty to look after the sick ones. Not Maria's!
To hide her embarrassment, Vivian decided to go straight to the point.
