Chapter: 636
Did she just say that she knew a medical research institute, and that they might know someone who could help?
How could she know someone from such an organization? Of course, for Julie, it didn't make any sense at all.
For the past twenty years, Maria had spent most of her life in remote mountainous areas. When did she even have the time and opportunities to be acquainted with high-end scientific research organizations?
“Maria, don't..."
Julie actually wanted to tell Maria that it wasn't the right time to make a joke. After all, this was no Laughing matter.
But she couldn't finish her sentence when she saw the look in Maria's eyes. It was filled with composure and sincerity.
Seeing this, Julie immediately wanted to believe what Maria said.
“Wait here. I've got to make a phone call."
Upon saying this, Maria quickly stood up and left the room.
She couldn't let Julie hear that call because it would just make things a lot more complicated.
Hence, she walked out of the house, through the long corridor, and finally into the small yard where she used to write her novel.
Sitting on the stone bench, Maria dialed a number on her red phone.
With just one ring, the person on the other end of the Line answered the call.
“What's up, my nabobess?"
A young woman's voice echoed through the phone.
For someone who instantly answered the phone call, her voice sounded languid.
"I need to ask you about something," Maria replied calmly.
“Humph! I thought that you were going to give me more money,” the woman on the other end of the line grumbled. She seemed to only care about money.
"Well, get to the point then. Don't come and disturb me unless you have something important to discuss. If you have so much spare time, you should be using it to make more money to invest in our research institute instead! Do you know how poor the institute is now? I'm the head of the institute, but all I can afford to eat is instant noodles!"
Maria knew the woman well, and these complaints didn't get on her nerves at all.
“I know. I will invest more as soon as possible. Now, let's get down to business. My grandfather on my mother's side of the family is dying. None of the top doctors in the country has been able to help. That's why I'm turning to upcoming scientific research to see if there are any solutions there."
"You have a grandfather?"
The woman was stunned for a second.
"That's right. Without your grandfather, your mother would not exist, and so you would not exist either—"
