Chapter: 1882
"That's just not fair."

Corless chimed in, “Alright, we'll see him tomorrow then. I'll bring along two bottles of fine wine."

Bettie stayed over that night. After dinner, she texted Lance, reminding him he was to meet her parents the next morning.

The following morning, as Bettie descended for breakfast, she noticed Corless dressed in a shirt and pants, a black belt cinching his waist. His hair was slicked back, and his beard was freshly groomed.

He looked energetic.

Amirah had her hair neatly pinned back, donning an elegant cheongsam that showcased her beauty. Clearly, she was a vision of grace in her youth. How could her father have been unfaithful to her mother? The rest were simply incomparable.

Bettie shot Corless a sharp look before sitting down beside Amirah with a cheerful grin. "Mom, you look stunning today."

Corless remained silent.

“Today marks the first meet-up between your boyfriend and us, so I need to pay extra attention. He could be my future son-in-law!"

Amirah responded with a grin.

"Mom, you're the elder here. Even if you don't lift a finger, he needs to treat you well.”

After a lengthy wait, Bettie glanced at her watch and scowled. “Why hasn't he arrived yet?"

It was nearly 10:30.

"What's the hurry?" Amirah teased.

"I'm not in a hurry. I just don't want you to be kept waiting."

Suddenly, the sound of an engine came from outside.

Amirah nudged Bettie, asking, "Is he here? Go out and have a look."

“He'll come in on his own. Why do I need to go outside?" Bettie muttered, yet she rose and hastened out of the living room. She saw Lance entering with two boxes of fine wine and some gifts.

“Please, come in." Bettie was a bit anxious now. She worried Lance might not make a good impression.

Lance followed Bettie into the living room, offering a smile to her parents seated on the sofa. "Hello."
