Chapter: 1883
"Hey there, Lance," Corless and Amirah greeted Lance with smiles, giving him a thorough once-over.
Dressed in a sleek black shirt paired with matching suit pants and leather shoes, Lance cut a dashing figure. His sharp gaze was softened by the glasses perched on his nose, lending him an air of sophistication and charm.
"Please, have a seat and set your things down. Carrying all that must be exhausting." Amirah found herself quite taken with Lance, though a nagging sense of familiarity tugged at her as if she'd crossed paths with him before.
"I hope I haven't made you wait too long. I wasn't sure what you'd like, so I bought a variety of things. Mrs. Ramirez, here's a necklace for you. I hope it's to your liking. Mr. Ramirez, I've heard you enjoy a good drink, so here are two bottles of Lafite."
Lance placed the jewelry box on the table, sliding it toward Amirah.
Upon opening the box, Amirah's eyes were met with the Lustrous sheen of a pearl necklace. The pearl, large and luminous, was capable of casting reflections, sparkling radiantly.
From what Amirah could tell, given her expertise, this pearl was worth no less than ten thousand dollars.
Corless casually looked over the wine and noticed that such a bottle could easily fetch a hundred thousand dollars.
“Lance, you've spent a lot of money. You don't need to bring such expensive gifts next time. We don't need anything. We just want you and Bettie to have a happy life together," Corless said.
Since Lance had brought so many costly items, it was clear he had wealth. Bettie was in good hands if they got married.
Amirah felt reassured seeing Lance's composed demeanor.
"Don't worry. I'll make sure Bettie is happy." Lance, sitting on the sofa, gave Bettie a reassuring glance. His determination was evident.
"It's comforting to hear that. But remember, actions speak louder than words. Bettie is sweet and naive. We've always pampered her. Try to be patient with her," Amirah said.
"I understand. Your affection for Bettie hasn't changed."
"What?" Amirah was taken aback. "Have we met before?"
“We were high school classmates," Lance revealed, his smile broadening. "I used to tutor Bettie during my senior year. I remember seeing you come home from work, bringing her sweets."
Bettie couldn't help but punch him playfully.
Amirah was taken aback. She pondered over it and realized it was indeed true. "Ah, that explains the sense of familiarity when I saw you! It must be destiny that brought you and Bettie together. But hey, don't just sit there chatting. Try some fruit," she encouraged.
"Thanks." Lance accepted a pear from Amirah. After taking a bite, he smiled and shared, “I really put a lot of effort into being with Bettie... I hope you won't laugh, but I had a crush on Bettie back in high school. When I returned from abroad and found out she was still single, I talked to Mr. Ramirez's friend about wanting a girlfriend. He inquired about my type, and I described someone just like Bettie..."
"And he played cupid for you," Corless chimed in, grinning. “You've got a keen mind."
