Chapter: 1884
Amirah wasn't thrilled at first to hear this, but after giving it some thought, she felt content.
Back in high school, Lance was a top student from a humble background. Nevertheless, he received a scholarship to study abroad at a prestigious university. There, he met a few wealthy peers and together, they established Noris Venture Capital.
While his partners contributed financially, Lance took the helm as the managing partner, making crucial investment decisions.
Fast forward seven years, Noris Venture Capital had risen to the top in Dracwynne, boasting a string of successful public listings that significantly boosted Lance's fortunes.
A visit to any of their invested companies would confirm the high regard in which Corless' friend's assessment was held.
Lance was smart and had a way with people. His actions today proved he knew how to navigate social situations. Bettie seemed so straightforward and naive. If she spent time with him, she'd easily be misled. Amirah was concerned.
Yet, Amirah realized Bettie wasn't adept at handling business matters.
Lance could be of assistance to Bettie in the future. If Lance truly cared for Bettie, she'd welcome his support. Given what was happening, it seemed Lance genuinely cared for Bettie, evident by his willingness to share his actions of pursuing Bettie openly.
The future was unpredictable. When Amirah got married, she had never imagined Corless would cheat on her.
After much thought, Amirah asked, smiling, “Haven't you thought about the possibility of Bettie having no feelings toward you?"
“No. I'm sure she will say yes to me after my pursuit." Lance looked over at Bettie, smiling.
Bettie felt like rolling her eyes at Lance. Was he really that sure of himself? He seemed so full of himself! He had quite a talent for self-praise.
Amirah knew her daughter like the back of her hand. She picked up on the subtle changes. Suddenly, it hit her. Why had Bettie out of the blue asked for a tutor when she wasn't fond of studying back in high school?
Corless seemed to take a liking to Lance. He couldn't help but chuckle at their interaction and said, “Alright! Lance, you are capable! I'm impressed."
"Thanks for the compliment."
“Lance, what's your favorite dish? I'll have the housemaid make it for you."
"Anything Bettie likes is fine by me. I'm easy to please."
Bettie was taken aback. He was a master at playing it cool.
Amirah, with a smile, said, "Well then, I'll head to the kitchen. You two keep chatting."
With that, Amirah made her way to the kitchen.
