Chapter: 1885
Seeing that Corless' cup was empty, Lance didn't hesitate to grab the teapot from the table and fill his cup.

Corless was satisfied with Lance, asking, “Bettie mentioned your mother passed away, is that right?"

“Yes, and my mother struggled with uremia since my high school days and passed away three years ago."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Corless found himself even more pleased with Lance for a reason. He thought about Bettie's future, relieved she wouldn't have to navigate the tricky dynamics with a mother-in-law or care for an elderly parent.

Despite favoring his son, Corless held a deep affection for Bettie and was delighted she had found such a remarkable partner.

Corless asked, “Lance, where are you employed currently?"

"I work as the marketing director at Glory Venture Capital." Lance explained his role at Glory Venture Capital, where he oversaw daily operations and made critical decisions. Upon his return, the partners at Glory Venture Capital were quick to promote him to managing director.

"Have you considered switching industries?"

“I've had offers to manage at other companies since coming back."

Lance was a standout as a venture capital manager with skills that could significantly benefit the management and strategic direction of various industries.

"So, why stay with Glory Venture Capital?" Corless inquired with curiosity.

"It's because Glory Venture Capital's headquarters are in Mathias," Lance revealed.

Corless ventured a guess, "Is it because you miss your family?"

"I have no family left. My parents are gone," Lance replied. He then glanced at Bettie. "Since Bettie lives in Mathias, I keep thinking we might cross paths again someday.”

Bettie just shook her head at him, unimpressed. Such sweet talk! Yet, her parents seemed to appreciate it.

Corless chuckled, yet his mind was already racing with thoughts.

Having Lance as a son-in-law would surely bring prosperity to the business. He imagined his illegitimate son, Erick, joining the company later, with Lance there to support him.

But, Trang Clothing was no match for Glory Venture Capital. Lance might not see the benefit. Therefore, Corless chose to bring it up later on.

Asher and Amirah, on their part, already saw Lance as the man for their daughter, and Lance had a knack for winning them over. The lunch went smoothly, filled with harmony and laughter for everyone except Bettie.

Despite her forced smile, Bettie felt down. She couldn't pinpoint the reason for her gloom. After all, her parents were fond of Lance.
