Chapter: 1896
Sabrina seemed to grasp Bettie's feelings. What Bettie really resented was the fact that Lance had left without a word, not Lance himself .
Back when Lance was not yet successful, Bettie had already fallen for him. Now, he had returned as a prosperous, charming, sophisticated, and wealthy man. He showed his affection for Bettie, adapted to her needs, and pursued her relentlessly. Bettie belatedly found herself unable to resist him.
Bettie once thought Sabrina was naive in matters of love. Yet now, she realized she was no wiser in love herself.
At 5:30 PM on a Friday, Tyrone got a call from Keilani. He glanced at the caller ID, turned off the phone, and set it back down.
The call ended on its own.
About thirty seconds later, his phone lit up again, displaying Jennie's name this time.
Tyrone hesitated and then answered, “Jennie, what's going on?"
Keilani's anxious voice came through. "Tyrone, hurry to the hospital. Jennie's been hit by a car and is in surgery!"
Tyrone's expression turned serious upon hearing this. He promptly inquired about the hospital's location as he made his way out.
Twenty minutes later, Tyrone reached the emergency surgery ward.
The surgery light was still on. Keilani was sitting on a bench, looking pale and anxiously twisting her shirt's hem. Her Lips were pressed tightly, and she looked extremely worried and frightened.
Tyrone strode over and asked in a low voice, “What happened?"
Keilani got up abruptly upon his arrival and began to explain, “I was picking her up from kindergarten for dinner. The restaurant had no parking, so I parked across the street. As we crossed at the light, out of nowhere, a car came speeding. I was in shock. By the time I came to, Jennie was on the ground... Tyrone, I'm so sorry. I never saw it coming..."
Keilani cried nervously, her eyes red with guilt.
“Did you get a chance to call the police?" Tyrone asked.
“I... I completely forgot." Holding onto her clothes tightly, Keilani was visibly shaken. “My only thought was to get Jennie to the hospital as quickly as possible. The idea to call the police slipped my mind." She reasoned that waiting for an ambulance might have taken longer than driving Jennie to the hospital herself.
Tyrone then pulled out his cell phone, dialed a number, and stepped aside to the fire exit. After informing the police, he made a call to Kylan.
Keilani appeared anxious, casting glances at Tyrone now and then.
Once Tyrone came back to the waiting area, Keilani inquired, “Have you contacted the police?"
“Yes, I have." He then turned to Keilani. “This isn't your fault, but apparently, you couldn't take care of Jennie alone. Next time you're out with Jennie, make sure someone else is with you."
