Chapter: 1918
"Oh..." Bettie glanced at Rita's departing figure and commented, "Typical Rita, all talk but no real action. What's she doing at the police station anyway?"
“I bet it's about Sierra. They've just announced Sierra's verdict. Rita's probably here to figure out how Sierra can serve her time without actually being in jail," Sabrina voiced her guess.
The reason behind this was Sierra's pregnancy, which made her eligible for an alternative to imprisonment. This seemed to give Rita a new angle to consider, so she didn't bother Sabrina further.
"Serving her sentence outside jail? How come?" Bettie asked.
"Because she's pregnant," Sabrina revealed.
"Wow." Bettie's lips quirked in surprise. "Who's the father?"
"No idea." Sabrina shook her head.
They continued their conversation as they left the police station.
“Do you guys need a ride?" Lance, who had been trailing behind, offered.
“No, thanks. My driver's already here," Sabrina replied, looking back.
Lance didn't push further and walked them to the car.
Before sliding into the car, Bettie looked at Lance, paused to think, and then asked, "When do you have time tomorrow? I'd like to buy you a meal."
Lance answered, "I'm free around noon or in the evening."
Bettie replied, "We'll figure it out later."
"Sure," Lance agreed with a nod.
After watching their car pull away, Lance headed back to the police station.
Upon reviewing Sabrina's statement, Lance was shocked to discover that Jennie's car incident was actually caused by Keilani's actions!
Lance's frown deepened. Not even a wild beast would harm its offspring. Yet, Keilani hurt her own daughter. She was even more insane than he had thought. She couldn't remain in Mathias anymore.
However, Lance didn't get what Keilani desired to achieve by orchestrating this. What was on Keilani's mind?
Alice's statement was ready as Lance waited a bit longer.
