Chapter: 1950
"If you can manage that, I might let it slide," Keilani said, leaning back with a smirk, arms crossed.
As Rita was getting ready to leave, Keilani called out, "Hold on."
"Yes?" Rita turned to Keilani, curious.
Keilani hesitated and then said, "Never mind. Forget it. Just remember what you promised."
Keilani wanted to tell Rita about Sabrina's pregnancy, hinting that if Rita wanted Sabrina out of the picture, the baby couldn't stick around. But then she had second thoughts. Rita was Sabrina's mom, after all. What if she softened upon knowing about the pregnancy?
Keilani decided to keep this to herself and let them sort it out.
Leaving the police station, Rita gazed into the distance, deep in thought. Turning to her assistant, she said, “Let's head back."
Her assistant nodded silently, trailing behind.
"Don't breathe a word about today's drama to anyone, especially not Horace. Clear?" Rita shot a sharp look at her assistant, her voice tinged with threat.
“Got it," the assistant replied quickly. “Are we going back to Violetholt now?"
Rita had planned to head back after helping handle Sierra's case.
With Rita's special visit to the police station for a talk with Keilani, the assistant sensed there might be a change of plan.
As expected, Rita said, "Let's go back to the hotel. We'll talk about leaving in a few days. And find out what Sabrina's been up to lately, would you?"
Rita couldn't help but muse whether Sabrina was born to be at odds with her.
The assistant quickly replied just as Rita's phone started ringing.
Rita grabbed it from her bag, checked the caller ID, and swiped the screen with her neat thumb. "Hey, Sierra?"
Sierra's voice sounded dry and hoarse. “Auntie, is the paperwork done?"
“Don't stress. Everything's sorted. What's going on?" Rita's tone was soft.
Ever since finding out she was pregnant and leaving the detention center, Sierra had been quiet, withdrawn, and sad, losing weight and looking down.
Rita had noticed this and felt sorry for Sierra. She always spoke gently, careful not to upset Sierra. If it weren't for Sabrina's insistence to urge Sierra to face the consequences, Sierra wouldn't have ended up like this. Her disdain for Sabrina grew.
