Chapter: 1990
Kaleb turned his warm gaze back to Jennie and took a seat beside her.
“Our flight is coming up soon. Are you excited?"
Jennie's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "I've never been to Philade. Grandpa, is it true your place there is really big?"
Kaleb responded with a gentle laugh, "Absolutely. You'll be staying at my home, and I'll ensure you're well looked after."
Kaleb took his sweet time giving Jennie the introduction of the Wilson Estate. When he noticed the longing look creep up on her face, he couldn't help but grin, feeling pretty satisfied. He was pretty sure once they hit Philade, Jennie would be head over heels for the place.
In Kaleb's book, Jennie would be over the moon in Philade without even thinking about Leaving.
Sabrina got sucked into her phone as she watched them shoot the breeze.
Out of the blue, Kaleb piped up, “Jennie, where's your plane ticket? Let me see."
"It's with Tyrone, why?" Jennie shot back, eyeing Tyrone who was glued to a magazine.
"I just want to check where you're sitting," Kaleb clarified.
"First class, seat A in the first row. I nabbed a window seat when we checked in," Jennie replied.
Kaleb's brows knitted. "Allen left it a bit late booking and first class was all snatched up."
“Mr. Welch swooped in and snagged three first-class seats just in the nick of time when he booked," Jennie explained.
"And who's your seat buddy?" Kaleb's curiosity was piqued.
The first class on this flight had a double aisle, with seats lined up 2-4-2, so Jennie had just one seat next to her, aisle-side.
"Sabrina," Jennie revealed.
“Oh, I see." Looking up at Sabrina briefly, Kaleb's expression hinted at a touch of letdown. He was crossing his fingers that Tyrone would be the one sitting beside Jennie so he could propose a seat swap and cozy up next to his granddaughter.
Overhearing their chat, Sabrina glanced at Kaleb and instantly grasped his silent plea. He yearned to sit beside Jennie.
When their eyes connected, Kaleb half expected Sabrina to offer, but she simply glanced away nonchalantly, pretending she didn't notice, and dove back into her phone.
Kaleb was left without words. If they hadn't locked eyes, maybe he wouldn't have felt a thing. But now, there was this nagging twinge of discomfort.
