Chapter: 2030
Just then, Jennie brought over a glass of water and set it in front of Kaleb. “Here you go."
Then, Jennie settled back on the sofa, continuing to watch the live broadcast of the wedding.
Lance took the microphone and said, "Thank you all for coming to my wedding. Today is the most important day of my life. I've finally achieved my dream of marrying the love of my life! Bettie and I have known each other for twelve years."
Lance looked into Bettie's eyes and continued, “When we first met, your energy and beauty took my breath away. I knew we came from different worlds. You reached out, held my hand, and gave me the courage to fight for our future. Later, things changed, and we were apart for seven years. Every night in a foreign country, I couldn't sleep. Only by thinking of our past could I find peace."
Bettie looked down, memories rushing back. She felt a deep sadness inside.
"When I returned, I was both happy and scared. I worried you had moved on and we couldn't go back. I acted cool, hiding my true feelings. Luckily, our story resumed. Honey, thank you for giving me this chance. From now on, I'll always be with you. We'll share every spring, summer, autumn, and winter for the rest of our lives..."
After Lance's speech, the emcee asked, "Mr. Carter, what does she mean to you?"
"She is my life," Lance announced earnestly.
"Wow!" the emcee exclaimed and the audience burst into applause.
Sabrina watched the stage, listening to Lance closely. Holding the phone for Jennie to catch Bettie's wedding, she patted the back of her hand with her other hand.
Tyrone whispered to Sabrina, “You're my life, too. No, you're even more important."
Sabrina simply laughed.
Tyrone's voice was caught by Sabrina's phone, and Jennie, Kaleb, and Zandra heard him clearly.
Jennie laughed out loud. "That's my dad!"
Kaleb didn't comment on this.
The emcee turned to Bettie now. "What do you want to say after hearing his heartfelt words?"
"Thank you for your patience and being with me. I believe we'll go on together."
The emcee, surprised, asked, “Anything else?"
"No." Bettie blushed. She thought it was just a formality and wasn't ready for such a heartfelt speech. She had never expected Lance to say so much!
"Alright. Let's move on to the next step..."
