Chapter: 2031
After the wedding ceremony, Bettie and Lance stepped down from the stage and the banquet began. Sabrina said goodbye to Jennie and ended the video call.
Zandra had Jennie play in the living room. She made an excuse to get Kaleb to go upstairs and looked at him coldly. "Tell me. What's going on?"
From Lance's speech, Zandra could tell he loved Bettie deeply. She had assumed Lance was reserved and quiet. How was he so passionate now?
“Haven't you figured that out? Bettie was his girlfriend when he was in Zimbab. He's been thinking about her ever since he came to Philade. Last year, he went to Mathias many times just to be with her."
Kaleb hadn't known about Bettie until Lance had been in Philade for two years.
Kaleb and Lance hadn't seen each other for years, the father and son not quite close. During a summer break, Lance traveled to Zimbab under the pretext of studying in other cities and waited outside a university in Violetholt for three days. He had finally caught sight of Bettie, the person he missed dearly, but didn't dared to approach her, and he had just left.
After returning to Philade, Lance acted like nothing happened, unaware that Kaleb knew all about his movements.
Zandra looked confused. “If they made up, why didn't Lance bring her to meet us? Why keep us in the dark and have the wedding in Mathias?"
Kaleb scoffed. "They're not really back together. She had a grievance that he left without a word back then. How could they just make up? He only got to pretend to be her husband through some tricks."
Zandra was at a loss for words. “So they're a fake couple?"
“Yeah, there is no marriage certificate. The wedding is just for show."
“No wonder she was so distant just now..." Zandra sighed and glared at Kaleb. "I had told you not to push him so hard then."
"Would he have come back if I didn't push?"
Zandra thought further about the wedding and something still felt off.
"Did he reveal his true identity yet?" If not, the wedding wouldn't be convincing without her and Kaleb there.
"He hadn't." Kaleb snorted. "He didn't dare."
“Why ?"
"Because Sabrina is the bride's friend."
"What do you mean?" Zandra was puzzled. She hadn't met Sabrina but had heard her name often enough.
"Keilani had issues with Sabrina, and to target Sabrina, she had others kidnapped Bettie. Bettie almost died, therefore, she despised Keilani and doesn't think much of Keilani's brother either."
