Chapter: 2065
When the others agreed, Bettie asked the housemaid to fetch the prepared fruits and snacks.
During the film, the four of them sat on the sofa, munching away.
Seeing Jennie gazing at Lance, Bettie asked with a grin, “Why are you staring at him?"
After finishing her food, Jennie answered, "Bettie, he looks a lot like my uncle.”
Lance paused, silently looking at Jennie.
Bettie pressed her lips together. Jennie’s uncle was Keilani's elder brother, the man who had forced her to have bungee jumping.
"Really?" This made Bettie mad and she glared at Lance.
Jennie nodded. "My uncle's mixed-race, handsome, and kind."
"Oh," Bettie replied with indifference. Kind? And he kindly kidnapped her for her to have bungee jumping with her hands tied? Lance had also spun her the same yarn. It seemed Keilani's brother was a good actor in front of kids and friends.
While discussing the film's plot, Jennie brought up her uncle again, saying a hero-like character resembled him.
Bettie glanced at Sabrina coolly, thinking Sabrina might have raised an ungrateful kid. How could Jennie speak for Keilani's brother? She had warned Sabrina that Jennie shouldn't get too close to Keilani's family for the risk of being influenced by them.
Lance seemed to catch on to Jennie's plan. He stepped outside, saying he needed to answer a call, and glanced at Jennie before leaving.
Jennie blinked.
After a few minutes with no sign of Jennie, Lance assumed she didn't get his hint. Just as he was about to call her, Jennie came over, looking around cautiously. "Uncle?"
“Over here." Lance took her hand and led her away. He looked down at her and asked, "Why didn't you reveal who I am?"
Jennie launched into a long explanation. She first accused Lance of lying and then shared her reasoning. "If Bettie realizes you're not like Keilani, she won't resist you as much."
Her explanation was clear and well-organized. It was not typical for a five-year-old. From her words, it was evident she knew Lance differed from Keilani.
Hearing this, Lance patted Jennie's head and said, “Thanks for your consideration, but this plan won't work."
"Why?" Jennie asked, puzzled.
"Because... Well, your grandfather did something bad to Bettie, under my name."
