Chapter: 255
What did he mean by authenticity? Their marriage wasn't real in the first place.
Before she could rebuff, Bennett continued, “I suggest we keep the technicality of our union between us. Your friend doesn't have to know. It's not that I doubt her Loyalty to you. I just don't have much confidence in her acting skills. Who knows, she could slip up and give us away.”
Claudia's eyes narrowed at that. She sensed that something was wrong, but she couldn't place her finger on it.
Anyway, she set her mind on returning the money.
There was no way she was going to accept such a huge sum from him.
“You don't have to worry about Aurora. I already showed her the bank alert. I'll transfer the money back to you without telling her. That way, she won't suspect a thing."
Bennett gave her a side-eye. "Is my money Like a hot potato in your bear hands."
“Yes, and I am afraid I can't hold on to it any longer," Claudia replied without mincing words.
Her conscience would never allow her spend the money she didn't work for.
Bennett set his mouth into a grim line. The room soon fell silent. Claudia stared at her phone which was on the desk in front of him. She hesitated taking it back.
After plucking up courage, she finally reached out for it.
Bennett's dark eyes were glued to her face.
Instantly, her ears were aflame. She pursed her Lips and tapped her phone screen. She then said, “I had better transfer the money back now. You know, there are many telecom scammers now. What if I fall victim to one of them and they wipe everything on my card?
Please can I get your bank card number?"
Holding her phone in both hands, Claudia raised her head to Look at him with her eyes sparkling.
She seemed to be able to pull off a puppy dog Look at any given time. Every time she wanted something or needed help, she just widened her eyes and blinked severally. No one could ever refuse her.
Don't fall for it! Bennett kept telling himself. But in a matter of seconds, his stone-cold heart melted under her gaze. "Let me go get the card first."
"okay." Claudia breathed a sigh of relief. To be honest, she had another reason for not accepting the money.
She wasn't Lying about the fear of falling a victim to scammers and losing all the money in the blink of an eye.
Shortly after, Bennett reappeared with his black card in hand. Claudia logged into the bank app on her phone and filled in the necessary information. She made a couple of attempts to send the money, but kept receiving an error message. Soon, she received another notification informing her that such a huge amount could only be transferred over the counter.
With a defeated Look, she said, "It says here that I have to make the transfer over the counter at the bank. Can I take a picture of your card?"
“Just take the card. The PIN is my birthday. You should use this card to buy yourself some evening dresses for parties or just go on a shopping spree with friends."
His words were indirect but clear enough. This card belonged to her from now onwards.
What was the point of transferring the one hundred million dollars to this card then?
