Chapter: 38
While speaking, she picked up a glass, filled it with tea, and carefully placed it above Delilah's head, slowly pouring the tea onto her. "Delilah, consider this your retribution
“Ant
Luckily for Delilah, the tea was not steaming hot. Upon hearing Delilah's scream of distress, Anthony finally snapped and wrested the glass from Claudia's grip.
“That's enough, Claudia!"
With a swift move, Anthony tossed the glass onto the floor, causing it to crash against the soft carpet with a muffled thump. And so, dinner concluded.
The room was filled with the sounds of Delilah's heartfelt weeping.
Anthony, in an act of support, pulled her up as she continued to sob.
Claudia's eyes were drawn to the glass on the floor, surprisingly intact. The last remnants of tea seeped out, slowly saturating the carpet.
She observed the gradual soaking of the carpet, her gaze fixated on it.
Only when the last droplet left the glass did her eyes shift back to Anthony.
As Claudia looked at the empty glass, it felt like something shattered deep within her heart.
Her emotions weren't those of sorrow or grief as she had anticipated.
Instead, a feeling of relief washed over her.
"It's over, Anthony."
Her voice was soft, yet it cut through the silence and was clearly audible to everyone present.
Having said her piece, Claudia collected her bag and proceeded to wheel away her wheelchair.
Her words sunk into Anthony's heart Like a heavy load, inducing a numb pain.
Anthony instinctively reached out to stop Claudia, but she seemed to predict his move and evaded him.
The wheelchair's wheel grazed the carpet, producing a whisper of a sound that was barely perceptible.
However, the noise gradually amplified as the wheels transitioned from the carpet to the floor on the corridor.
The sound gradually diminished as Claudia navigated the wheelchair away from the private room.
Not too long after her exit, she ran into Bennett who was heading in the opposite direction.
