Chapter: 423
But she hadn't given much thought to Zaria‘s birthday celebration. After all, she trusted Bennett to this matter.
He had his hands full every day; how could he find time to shop for presents?
Realizing it was too Late to go out and buy something, Claudia pondered various options before deciding to call on Bennett for assistance.
He did have a capable assistant who could handle such tasks! Meanwhile, in the high-level conference room of the Segarine Group.
In the stillness of the meeting room, the sudden vibration of a mobile phone drew everyone‘s attention.
Casually looking at the caller ID, Bennett's stern face softened slightly. Casting a glance at his employees, he picked up the phone and answered it.
“It's me."
The man's voice was mellow, and inexplicably gentle through the phone. For the first time, Claudia realized how soothing Bennett's voice could be.
However, she hadn't called to enjoy his voice. Gathering her thoughts, she said, "Hey, have I interrupted you?"
“No," the man lied calmly.
Hearing that, Claudia breathed a sigh of relief. She was afraid that it was not the right time to call him. "Well, I just realized I don't have a gift for Zaria's birthday. Would it not be rude to arrive empty-handed?"
"I see,"
Bennett answered with no indication he intended to end the call. "Did you just wake up?"
“Yes, I just woke up from my nap. I won't disturb you further. Go back to your work. I'll be practicing the piano."
"Alright."
Ending the call, Bennett's expression reverted to its usual cold detachment, as though the previous conversation had never happened.
“Why are we not continuing? Did you really accomplish nothing in the past two months?"
Bennet picked up his phone and stood up abruptly. "If I don't see progress in the next two months, you can all pack your bags and go home.
With that, he pushed his chair back and strode out of the office.
Jackson trailed behind Bennett, holding his breath, anxious not to become entangled in whatever was happening.
Suddenly, Bennett, who was leading the way, halted and called out, “Jackson.”
Feeling a sense of unease, Jackson approached, clutching the document he was holding. "Mr. Dreskin?"
“Zaria's birthday is tonight. Find a gift for her and place it on my desk within two hours."
Jackson had braced himself for criticism, but the last thing he expected was to be asked to arrange a birthday gift for Zaria.
