Chapter: 736
The two strolled around the beach until the sun had completely set and there were no other tourists left.
Claudia looked at Bennett and tugged at his hand. "We should go back." Instead of letting her pull him in the direction of the car, Bennett said, “Come with me first."
As he led her forward, Claudia inquired in curiosity, “Where are we going?"
Bennett did not respond. He just continued Leading her somewhere. Claudia did not know where he planned on taking her, but she followed him anyway.
After around five minutes of walking together, Bennett finally stopped. He released her hand and faced her. "Do you Like the sea?"
Claudia nodded, still looking confused. "Is there something you want to show me?"
Her hair was a little disheveled due to the night breeze. Claudia reached out to brush away the strands of hair that strayed near her lips. It was then that Bennett whipped out a lighter.
She became even more puzzled.
“Are you going to smoke?" She was sure Bennett wasn't a smoker, though, or was he? Bennett chuckled a little but did not answer her question. He lit the lighter and threw it to the ground.
With a whoosh, the sand caught on fire.
Claudia's eyes widened in shock.
A heart-shaped flame of red and blue appeared on the sand, with the words “Happy Birthday" written in the center.
It reminded Claudia of a movie scene where the hero celebrated the heroine's birthday and declared his love for her in the same way.
When she was younger, she told Aurora that if a man confessed his love to her in that same way, she would marry him right then and there.
She had no idea that Bennett would reenact that scene from the movie that she had seen many years ago.
There were not many people on the beach at this hour, much Less in that particular area.
Claudia was moved as she watched the blazing fire and realized her childhood wish had come true.
The nighttime ocean breeze was beginning to bring a chill. Claudia glanced at the man and asked, "Did you read my diary?”
Since she was a young girl, Claudia had kept a diary after her mother Thomasina encouraged her to write her thoughts and feelings on paper; and that way, she could learn the full scope of her daughter's life even when she was gone.
Before Claudia entered middle school, she believed Thomasina's reasoning without any doubt. Then, she discovered that it was just a white lie that her mother had told her. She never stopped writing in her diary, though, because she had gotten used to jotting down her thoughts and experiences every night.
After keeping a diary for all these years, she had already used up three thick notebooks.
When she got married and moved in with Bennett, she brought her three diaries with her.
Her childhood wishes and teenage dreams were written in one of them. So, Bennett wouldn't have found out about it if he hadn't read her diary.
However, she was always with him when he was home, so how did he manage to do that without her knowledge?
