Chapter: 1724
Aldrin's confusion deepened. "What do you mean?"
“Laura's made up her mind. She won't pick you, nor forgive Forrest.
She's gone, off to start again. I backed her choice, even though I wished she'd stayed. Staying would've kept her tied to her past, unable to find peace. This money? It's her way of settling any trouble she caused. She's looking for her own peace. Just take it.”
“No, I can't."
Aldrin shook his head firmly.
“I don't want her money! How can she just leave like that?"
He was in disbelief.
His eyes suddenly welled up. “You know where she is, don't you?"
Camila shook her head. “She wouldn't tell me. She said she was afraid that I couldn't keep the secret. She's really gone."
Aldrin, feeling lost and downcast, asked, "So she left because she remembered everything?"
"Yes," Camila confirmed with a nod.
Aldrin blamed himself, "I should've seen the signs. I should've never left her side, kept her from leaving..."
"Calm down, Aldrin. If she wanted to go, staying with her wouldn't have stopped her. Laura likes men who are mature and stable. Don't lose yourself. Strive to be your best. That way, if you two meet again, she might fall for you!"
Camila tried to lift his spirits.
Aldrin inquired, "You think she'll fall for me if I'm better?"
"Yes," Camila replied confidently.
Aldrin whispered, "Become better?"
He said it again, more to himself, "I have to be better?"
His face had a far-off look, like he was lost in thought.
Camila, worried about him, urged, "Come home with me..."
